Press Releases
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Miami International Boat Show, Booth #Q39, Feb. 16, 2006 – Sea Tow Services International, Inc., the world’s largest and only international marine assistance company, today announced the launch of Sea Smart™, an innovative new communications service that utilizes boaters’ existing equipment to provide a much needed application for their DSC-enabled VHF: a reliable communications connection on the water. “As marine professionals with over twenty years of experience assisting boaters on the water, Sea Tow is well aware of the incalculable, and potentially life-saving, value in having a direct, reliable connection from the boat to the shore, especially when that connection includes reliable phone communications and real-time vessel location,” said Capt. Joe Frohnhoefer, Chairman & CEO of Sea Tow Services International, Inc. Sea Smart’s marine voice and data network is comprised of coastal “high site” radio towers that connect, via RoIP, to a national operations center manned by professional marine dispatchers and licensed captains 24-hours a day. The subscription-based service includes Automatic Vessel Location (AVL), trip tracking, position plotting, unlimited direct-to-shore local and long distance calls and 24-hour marine operator assistance. “There has been a tremendous need in the industry to provide boaters with a reliable, affordable communications mechanism while on the water,” explained Capt. Keith Cummings, Sea Tow’s president and chief engineer for Sea Smart. “Cell phones are not a viable option because of their spotty coverage and satellite service is unattainable for most because of the cost.” As part of their subscription, Sea Smart subscribers receive a unique MMSI number which allows their boats’ location to be monitored from any Web-enabled device – either on the home computer or on the Sea Smart operator’s screen at the 24-hour customer service center. Should a subscriber need assistance on the water, Sea Smart’s operators, who are trained in marine assistance, can identify the boater’s needs and exact location and immediately dispatch the nearest Sea Tow provider or U.S. Coast Guard to come to their aid. The Sea Smart subscription is based on an annual contract, with no monthly overages or surcharges.
